What's the job market really like? Will experienced staff be supportive of me? How do I handle my emotions when working with patients?

These are just a few questions on the minds of today's new graduates. To find these answers, LPN Forum hit the road to cover a student session at an ADVANCE Job Fair and CE Event in Valley Forge, PA.

ADVANCE editor Tom Kerr moderates the session with three recent healthcare grads: Tiffany Chestnut, LPN; William Keene Jr., BSN, RN; and Jessica Lightcap, PTA.

Session Part 1: Job Search, Proving Yourself, Caring For Patients

Session Part 2: Student Audience Addresses Panel

Highlight Reel 1: I'm A New Grad, Now What?

Highlight Reel 2: Life As A New Healthcare Professional

Now that I have graduated and passed my boards, what do I do? It's a daunting task to be looking for a job, so where do I look and what should I be looking for?

I WOULD LIKE TO RECOMMEND THE FEUER NURSING REVIEW CLASS TO ANYONE WHO HAS FAILED OR NEEDED A LITTLE BOOST OF CONFIDENCE ON TAKING THEIR BOARDS. I GRADUATED IN 1997 AND TOOK MY BOARDS FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 2008. I FIRST ATTENDED THE NURSING REVIEW COURSE FOR 5 DAYS IN JANUARY 2008, THEN TOOK THE BOARDS AND PASSED ON THE FIRST TRY.

Ayana, the only thing I can say is buy the Kaplan NCLEX-PN guide and learn the test-taking strategies because I studied four different books and only the Kaplan book helped me as far as test-taking strategies go. The questions in the book are nothing like the questions on the NCLEX, they have their own set of questions. Just study the test-taking strategies and apply your nursing knowledge.

I hope this helps you.

GOOD LUCK,
Eshia
